    *FLIGHT INSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS AND RATES*

Private Pilot License Requirements

The private pilot license is where you will start your journey into flying. Whether you are learning to fly helicopters for fun or for a career, this is your starting point. A private pilots license entitles you to fly for yourself and take passengers but, you are not allowed to receive any compensation for your time and you must pay a pro-rated share of the expenses. To become a private pilot, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) mandates that you must meet the following requirements:

* 61.103 Eligibility requirements:
* Be at least 17 years of age (16) yrs old for student pilot
*Hold a 3rd class Medical or student certificate
* Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language. If the applicant is unable to meet one of these requirements due to medical reasons, then the Administrator may place such operation limitation on that applicants pilot certificate as are necessary for the safe operation of the aircraft.
* Pass an FAA Computer Knowledge Exam
*Pass an FAA Oral and Flight Test

The FAA states, you must have a minimum of 40 hours of flight time to apply for a private pilot license. However, the average time to obtain your license will vary by how quickly you learn. Most people take their check ride (practical test, containing ground questioning, and a flight test) around 45 to 50 hours. A minimum of 20 of those hours will be spent with your instructor learning all the different maneuvers of the helicopters. The rest of the time will be spent with you practicing in the helicopter alone. You will need around 40 hours learning the knowledge that goes along with flying, with your instructor. This time depends widely on the student and how much they study.
